Course Explanation
What Is Academic Writing & Research Methods?
Academic writing is a formal and evidence-based form of communication used in universities, research institutions, and scholarly publications. It presents ideas through clear organization, logical arguments, reliable evidence, appropriate language, and accurate referencing.
Research methods are the systematic approaches used to formulate questions, collect information, analyze evidence, evaluate explanations, and reach supported conclusions. Methods may be qualitative, quantitative, historical, comparative, theoretical, or mixed, depending on the subject and research problem.
Academic writing and research methods are closely connected. Strong writing cannot compensate for weak research, and valuable research may not be understood if it is poorly organized. Students therefore need to learn how to move from an initial topic to a focused question, research design, analysis, argument, and final paper.
